Afreeca Freecs pull off shocking upset against Gen.G in week 7 of 2021 LCK Summer Split

Afreeca Freecs Claims Victory over Gen.G in the 2021 LCK Summer Split

Afreeca Freecs (AFS) emerged victorious in a 2-1 series against Gen.G during the seventh week of the 2021 LCK Summer Split. Despite Gen.G bringing Clid back to their starting lineup, it did not have a significant impact on the outcome. Gen.G appeared disorganized, much like in their recent defeat against Liiv SANDBOX.

AFS Shines with MVP Performances

The MVP honors were awarded to Fly and Leo, the carries of AFS. Fly showcased exceptional skills in the first match on Orianna, a mid mage champion who has gained popularity after the item rework. His strong presence countered Bdd’s Ryze effectively, preventing him from dealing damage to Fly’s teammates. Fly’s impactful ultimates also played a crucial role in securing teamfights for his team.

Leo earned the MVP title after a dominant performance on Kai’sa, effectively shutting down Ruler’s Ezreal. With a formidable frontline, Leo dealt massive damage in teamfights, leading his team to victory.

Highlights of the Match

The match began with AFS making a statement by easily defeating the former leaders, Gen.G. AFS secured early game advantages and steadily dismantled Gen.G with calculated moves. Fly’s Orianna was instrumental in AFS’ win as he consistently prevented Gen.G from mounting a comeback.

In the second match, AFS maintained their aggressive playstyle, establishing a decent gold lead. However, Gen.G made a comeback in the midgame with their superior composition, equalizing the series with Bdd’s exceptional performance on Azir.

The final match was a closely contested battle, with both teams showcasing their best picks and skills. Although Gen.G appeared to be in control in the later stages, a crucial mistake of surrendering the Ocean Dragon Soul proved costly. AFS became virtually unstoppable, overpowering Gen.G in subsequent teamfights.

AFS Playoff Hopes and Upcoming Matches

With a 7-6 record, AFS currently holds the sixth position in the standings and boasts a two-series lead over KT Rolster (5-8). Unless they experience a significant decline in performance, AFS is likely to secure a spot in the playoffs. In the upcoming week, they will face DWG KIA and DRX, both of whom have displayed weaknesses in their recent series.
