The 2023 LCK Summer Split kicked off on June 7, and after the first week of play, important indicators about the meta and champion priorities have emerged.
Neeko: The Popular and Banned Champion
According to stats site Games of Legends, there are three League of Legends champions with a 100 percent presence rate in the LCK Summer Split. However, Neeko has been banned in all but one of the 28 games played so far.
The Rise of Neeko
Neeko has gained popularity since her mid-scope update on May 3. Her ability to transform into various elements of the map adds a layer of strategy to the pro meta, making her a formidable opponent.
Players are still adjusting to playing against Neeko and are unwilling to take the risk during official games, where each play can significantly impact the momentum of a team.
Neeko’s Strengths
In addition to her map transformation abilities, Neeko possesses good burst damage and a crowd control chain with her root and ultimate. If she is able to hit multiple enemies with her Pop Blossom, she can single-handedly turn the tide of teamfights.
Chovy’s Impact
Chovy, Gen.G’s mid laner, is the only player who has had the chance to play Neeko in the LCK Summer Split. Although his KDA wasn’t exceptional, Chovy made a significant impact by hitting great ultimates on multiple occasions, recording the highest damage share for his team at 25.3 percent.
Other Champions with a 100 percent Presence Rate
K’Sante and Yuumi are the other two champions in the LCK Summer Split with a 100 percent presence rate. K’Sante has also achieved the same stat in the LPL, being picked or banned in over 100 games.
Neeko’s Future and Riot Games’ Watchlist
With K’Sante already receiving a minor nerf, Neeko might be on Riot Games’ watchlist for future patches. If the developers don’t nerf her soon, we might see Neeko being banned for the remainder of the LCK regular summer split.
