A Judgment from Riot awaits Cloud9 Tempest

League of Legends Team Faces Potential Disqualification from Challenger Scene

One of the teams expected to qualify for the next season of the League Championship Series (LCS) through the challenger scene may have their dreams shattered before the season even starts.

The team is currently awaiting a ruling from Riot Games regarding their alleged use of a ringer in their Challenger Series qualifier match against Team Confound. Anonymous sources close to the situation have confirmed this.

Cloud9, a well-known esports organization, returned to the challenger scene with a new lineup comprised of some of the top talent in the scene. Led by mid laner David “Yusui” Bloomquist, Cloud9 Tempest was considered one of the favorites in the Challenger Series.

In the qualifier, they proved why. Cloud9 Tempest easily defeated Roar Gaming and then went on to dominate Team Confound, a team featuring a substitute player from Dignitas.

However, it has been alleged that Cloud9 Tempest used a non-roster player on one of their accounts, which would violate the competition’s rules. A decision from Riot Games is expected soon, with some sources stating that it may come today. The ruling is said to contain the “full story” surrounding the situation.

If the team is penalized and forced to forfeit the match and their spot in the Challenger Series, Team Confound will likely take their place. There is also a possibility of play-in games between non-qualified teams.

It would be a disappointing ending for one of the challenger scene’s most promising teams.
