A Comprehensive Timeline of LS’ Time as Cloud9’s League of Legends Head Coach

After just 80 days, Nick “LS” De Cesare was released as the head coach of Cloud9’s League of Legends team. LS coached only four games on the LCS stage before parting ways with the organization.

At the time of LS’s departure, Cloud9 was tied for first place in the LCS, having won three out of their first four games. LS’s release came as a surprise, considering the team’s success under his coaching.

Now, Cloud9 will continue the season without LS. However, his time in North America has left a lasting impact on the organization and its fans.

LS’s Time as Head Coach of Cloud9

Oct. 25, 2021: Cloud9 eliminated from Worlds 2021

A successful 2021 season came to a close when Cloud9 was knocked out of the 2021 League World Championship. The team rebuilt its roster and replaced head coach Mithy.

Dec. 1, 2021: LS hired as Cloud9 head coach

Cloud9 appointed LS as the new head coach in early December. He had previously streamed with T1 and pledged to work with both the LCS and Academy rosters to develop a competitive lineup.

Jan. 14: LS not present for Lock In

Prior to the start of the LCS Lock In tournament, Cloud9 announced that LS would not be able to join the team due to travel restrictions. Assistant coach Max Waldo led the team during the tournament, but Cloud9 was eliminated in the semifinals.

Feb. 5: LS coaches C9 to year’s first regular season win

In his first game as an LCS coach, LS led Cloud9 to a victory over Golden Guardians with an unconventional Ivern pick in the mid lane. The team had a successful start to the Spring Split campaign.

Feb. 13: LS and Cloud9 start regular season 3-1

Cloud9 continued its winning streak in the regular season, winning three out of four games. The team showcased a variety of champions during LS’s tenure as head coach.

Feb. 19: Fired moments before CLG game

Just minutes before Cloud9’s game against CLG, LS was unexpectedly released from his contract and relieved of his duties as head coach. Cloud9 went on to lose the game.

Feb. 22: Cloud9 gives statement on LS’ release

A few days after LS’s release, Cloud9 released a video explaining the decision to part ways with LS. The organization cited a disagreement on coaching and team operations.

Feb. 23: LS retires from professional coaching

LS announced on Twitch that he will not pursue coaching opportunities in an official capacity. He considers his time on Cloud9 a success but has decided to retire from coaching.
