5 Desirable Features for a League of Legends MMORPG

A new MMORPG from Riot Games set in the League of Legends universe has been confirmed. Riot posted a job listing for its MMORPG team on the company’s website yesterday.

While a release date is still unknown and the game is expected to be launched in the distant future, Riot is already generating buzz around the concept.

Here are five things we would like to see in the upcoming League MMO whenever it’s released.

First-hand lore

The lore of League is already rich in content, but much of it is hidden behind a glass curtain. The upcoming MMO might serve as a proper avenue for introducing the lore of Runeterra to the average fan on a wider scale. Streamlining the lore into one medium and making players interact with it firsthand would be a huge win for Riot.

Multiple levels of exploration

Iconic zones are a mark of a great MMO. The more iconic regions from Runeterra that Riot brings to life in this MMO, the better. Each region should feel like its own miniature “world” with quests, NPCs, and immersive experiences. Exploring different zones such as Bilgewater or Demacia should feel rewarding in and of itself.

Deep dive into champion relations

The relationships between champions in League have always been somewhat unclear. The new MMO should focus on exploring the major champions and how they interact with each other. Players should have the opportunity to delve into the intricacies of these relationships. With an open world filled with complex characters and expansive regions, the possibilities for exploring their various intermingling webs of relationships are vast.

Fluid race-class combinations

Character customization is an important aspect of RPGs. Runeterra is limited in original races, but options like Yordles should be available. As for classes, they could be based on the various roles from League or could be entirely original. Regardless, keeping the race-class combinations flexible and open for players would be a positive sign.

Development of background characters

While the League universe is built on its most important characters, Riot should also focus on lesser-known characters. Exploring the present stories of characters that make up the everyday aspects of the world would add depth to the MMO. With such a big world to work with, filling it with intriguing characters beyond the known commodities of League will be important for Riot.
