2024 brings new and improved items, enhancing damage for LoL’s marksmen and fighters while healing diminishing.

Major Item Changes Coming to League of Legends in 2024 Preseason

The upcoming preseason of League of Legends will bring significant changes to the game’s items, particularly for marksmen and top lane fighters. In a recent developer blog, Riot Games outlined the new and reworked items that aim to enhance diversity for these classes. However, this also means that popular existing items like Goredrinker, Divine Sunderer, Silvermere Dawn, and others will be phased out, leading to a shift in how players control certain champions.

A Focus on Damage over Healing

One notable change is that most items for marksmen and fighters will no longer provide bonus healing. Instead, these items will focus on increasing damage while granting additional base health upon completion. While champions like Aatrox and Dr. Mundo will still have innate self-healing, this change encourages other champions to be more cautious and strategic in their itemization.

New Items for Marksmen and Fighters

Several new items will be introduced for marksmen and fighters. Sundered Sky is an item that offers sustain and burst damage, with an initial critical strike and healing when damaging an enemy champion for the first time. Nitro Hexaegis empowers players with a burst of attack and movement speed for seven seconds after casting their ultimate, making it useful both for initiation and escape. Both of these new items require the new component item called Tunneler.

A New Mechanic with Terminus

The new marksmen-centric item, Terminus, introduces a unique mechanic where each attack switches between a Light and Dark form, resulting in different effects. Light attacks grant bonus armor and magic resist for five seconds, while Dark attacks provide additional armor and magic penetration. Despite its high cost, Terminus is expected to be a valuable item for champions who want to deal significant damage and sustain themselves without much external assistance.

Other Changes and Possibilities

Other changes include the revival of passives for Tiamat and Ravenous Hydra, a complete overhaul of the splitpushing item Hullbreaker, adjustments to Spear of Shojin for additional damage through stacks, and cost reductions for items like Stridebreaker and Witt’s End. The build path of Guardian Angel has also been tweaked due to the removal of Stopwatch from the game.

It is important to note that these item changes may still be altered during the extended PBE testing phase before their release on live servers. Players who want to experience these changes and try out the new champion Hwei can participate in the testing starting today.
