LCS Heads to Mid-Season Invitational with Cloud9

Cloud9 has emerged as the representative for the Mid-Season Invitational in an exciting season of the LCS. We take a look back at the successful Spring Split, which has witnessed the continued growth of the league.

Increase in Viewership and Engagement

The LCS has witnessed a remarkable 30% increase in hours watched year-over-year during the Spring Split across all platforms, including co-streamers, according to Riot Games. Furthermore, Friday Night League experienced a significant 70% increase in its average minute audience since the addition of Friday broadcasts last summer.

Successful Mid-Season Showdown

The Mid-Season Showdown attracted a large viewership as well. It reached a peak of 416,000 viewers on Twitch and YouTube, with an average minute audience of 281,000 people, as reported by Riot.

Playoffs and Rebranding

The playoffs finals took place at the iconic Greek Theatre in Los Angeles and featured the return of PENTAKILL, one of the favorite bands of League of Legends fans. Additionally, the LCS continues to be the third-most popular professional sports league in the U.S. among individuals aged 18 to 34, according to Riot.

This past season, the LCS unveiled a new rebranding, including a fresh logo, graphics, and a redesigned weekend schedule. They also showcased a new LCS studio for analysts, allowing on-air talent to be featured online and in person.

In the upcoming season, the LCS studio will first be utilized by the broadcast hosts, with analysts, shoutcasters, and teams joining later, depending on the situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. If conditions improve, fans may also be allowed back into the studio.

The 2021 LCS Summer Split will commence on Friday, June 4, so make sure to catch all the exciting action!
