Taipei Assassins: Struggles and Potential at Regionals

Split Overview

This split has been challenging for the Taipei Assassins (TPA) compared to their performance in the GPL last season and LMS last split. The loss of team captain Winds, their primary warder and engage threat, had a significant impact on the team’s performance. TPA struggled throughout the split without a clear identity and made several role swaps in an attempt to find their footing. Despite their struggles, TPA managed to contend with top teams towards the end of the split but fell short of making it to the playoffs.

Morning

3.4 KDA

57.6% AKP

4.8 CSD@10

20.2% DMG

Champions: Gnar, Shen

Morning, who role swapped from mid to top lane to accommodate Chawy, has shown strength in his laning phase, consistently outperforming his opponents. However, he still needs to improve in areas such as teleport usage and teamfighting. Overall, Morning is a serviceable top laner, considering the talent pool in Taiwan.

REFRA1N

4.3 KDA

69.4% AKP

3.0 CSD@10

12.2% DMG

0.91 WPM

0.32 WCPM

Champions: Rek’Sai, Gragas

REFRA1N, a more experienced player compared to the previous rookies, brings in valuable experience and leadership to the team. Although he struggles with tank champions, he excels on Gragas and Rek’Sai. However, he can be easily banned out, forcing him onto less comfortable champions. Despite this, his vision game is an improvement over previous junglers Domo and Pony.

Chawy

3.8 KDA

76.5% AKP

3.8 CSD@10

33.4% DMG

Champions: Viktor, Jayce, Varus

Chawy has been the standout player on the team, carrying TPA in the absence of Winds. His mechanical skill and teamfighting ability make him a valuable asset. Despite lacking a strong frontline, Chawy has managed to deal a significant amount of damage and contribute to TPA’s success. His partnership with REFRA1N has been effective since their time on Flash Wolves.

Lupin

3.7 KDA

71.1% AKP

3.0 CSD@10

28.8% DMG

Champions: Corki, Sivir, Kalista

Lupin, despite struggling with champion pool changes, has been a reliable source of damage for TPA. He has improved in teamfight positioning and has been a key contributor in their recent surge. However, TPA still needs to work on finding better synergy with their supports.

Jay

4.5 KDA

78.4% AKP

1.16 WPM

0.27 WCPM

Champions: Thresh, Alistar

Jay, the longest-tenured player on TPA, has shown improvement in his playstyle and become the main initiator for the team. However, his vision game is lacking compared to other supports in the region. Despite this, he has started performing well on Janna, showcasing his versatility.

TPA in Regionals

TPA has shown improvement towards the end of the split but struggles with closing out games and utilizing teleport effectively. Their limited playstyle makes it challenging for them to adapt to different compositions. With Chawy being banned for elo boosting, TPA will face significant challenges in regionals. While they may be able to win a game with a strong substitute like AS Achie, they are unlikely to match up against the stronger HKE. TPA will need to evaluate their roster for season 6.
