100 Thieves showcases Doublelift’s LCS comeback with unexpected Azir pick, but struggles against Fudge-led Cloud9

Doublelift Returns to Pro Play with 100 Thieves, Faces Defeat against Cloud9

After taking a two-year break from the competitive scene, Doublelift made his grand return to pro play with 100 Thieves in the 2023 LCS Spring Split. However, his first match against Cloud9 proved to be a tough challenge for the veteran marksman.

Doublelift, known for his stellar reputation as a multi-championship-winning legend of the LCS, had high expectations on his shoulders. But it was clear that the 29-year-old needed to shake off some rust, as he only managed to secure a single kill and two assists while facing five deaths.

His rookie support Busio also faced immense pressure, especially after trying out a unique Azir support build to counter the Thieves’ Heimerdinger pick. Despite decent farming, Busio’s impact was minimized in the later stages of the game. Cloud9’s Zven, playing Heimerdinger, showcased exceptional crowd control and damage that contributed to C9’s victory.

Even Tenacity, making his debut, stumbled in the beginning after being solo killed by Fudge. Fudge’s exceptional K’Sante gameplay was the catalyst for many of his team’s teamfight wins.

Although it was a lopsided affair and a difficult return for Doublelift, the LCS is filled with improved rosters and hungry newcomers. The ADC GOAT has a lot of work ahead of him as he aims for success with 100 Thieves.
