100 Thieves Releases 4 LoL Players, Signaling Start of LCS Offseason Rebuilding

100 Thieves Drops Four Players, Begins Rebuild for Next LCS Season

Popular esports organization 100 Thieves has made a major roster shakeup, parting ways with four players from their League of Legends team ahead of the 2023-24 LCS offseason. The departing players include top laner Ssumday, jungler Closer, AD carry Doublelift, and support Busio. This move marks a complete rebuild for 100 Thieves as they prepare for the next season. The only player they chose to keep is mid laner Quid, who remains under contract until 2024.

Departing Players and Potential Replacements

100 Thieves announced the roster changes today, bidding farewell to Ssumday, Closer, Doublelift, and Busio. All four players’ contracts are set to expire when the 2023 free agency period begins on November 21. Speculations about these changes were circulating for weeks, with reports suggesting Busio was headed to FlyQuest and Ssumday hinting at his departure earlier this month. Additionally, 100 Thieves reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Golden Guardians’ jungler River, who may replace Closer.

Doublelift’s Future Uncertain

As for Doublelift, his future in the LCS is uncertain following his departure from 100 Thieves. While several teams in the LCS could benefit from his skill and experience, no specific landing spot has been reported at this time. Doublelift has previously retired from professional League of Legends and may potentially pursue a full-time streaming career this offseason.

Next Season and Team Adjustments

The upcoming League of Legends offseason is expected to be filled with chaos as players’ contracts expire and teams make announcements. 100 Thieves now faces the challenge of filling four roster spots before the start of the LCS season in January.
