Jungle Karthus is facing a complete defeat on the PBE

Ahead of League of Legends Patch 9.11: Karthus receives a big ult nerf on PBE

Karthus is one of the best performing junglers currently due to his strong jungle clear and late game damage potential. Riot is addressing this by lowering the damage of his ultimate ability, Requiem (R), on the Public Beta Environment (PBE).

At the moment, Karthus is a heavy hitter, which called for a change. However, the nerf to his ultimate may be too extreme. Currently, at level six, Karthus deals 205 damage with Requiem, but with the impending nerf, it will be reduced by 50 damage. This significantly decreases his kill potential and makes him almost useless in the mid-game.

While Karthus will still be able to scale into the late game, getting there will be a struggle. Rather than pressuring lanes, he’ll have to focus solely on farming, which puts him at a disadvantage compared to other junglers who thrive in that playstyle.

Rather than nerfing Karthus’s ultimate, Riot could have considered reducing his damage to jungle camps or his mana costs. By targeting his ultimate, not only will Karthus become less viable in the jungle, but he will also suffer in the mid lane where his win rate is already lacking.

It’s important to note that the change to Karthus’s ultimate is not final, and there is a possibility that it will be reverted before Patch 9.11 is released.
