Merkur UK Releases Sustainability Report

MERKUR UK Publishes Second Edition of Sustainability Report

Merkur UK has released its second Sustainability Report, highlighting the company’s commitment to social initiatives throughout 2023. The report, titled “Investing in the High Street, Revitalising Local Economies,” covers a range of activities including community support, environmental protection, safer gambling, and workplace diversity.

The report, produced by Lee Willows, founder, and Executive Chair of ESG Gaming, aims to inform decision-makers and dispel misconceptions about the land-based gambling sector. Merkur UK hopes to provide a balanced perspective on their contributions to local and national economies.

Sascha Blodau, General Manager of Merkur UK, stated that the company has invested over £500 million in the UK economy, created 2,500 jobs, and raised more than £1.2 million for charities. Their 360 Program, recognized as the Gold Standard for safer gambling, has set a benchmark for the industry.

In addition to their gaming initiatives, Merkur UK has supported 100 nominated charities and environmental causes. They have planted 25,000 trees, offset 2,000 tonnes of CO2e, and contributed to a wind farm project in Sri Lanka.

Looking ahead to 2024, Merkur UK plans to expand their carbon footprint mitigation measures, maintain G4 accreditation, uphold their commitment to ethical game design, and introduce Information Pods in their venues to promote safer gambling.

Lee Willows expressed his privilege in working with the Merkur UK team to compile the Sustainability Report. He commended their unwavering commitment to supporting charities and navigating the regulatory landscape.
