Dragon’s Dogma 2 emerges as Capcom’s top single player Steam launch surpassing expectations despite diverse feedback

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Becomes Capcom’s Biggest Singleplayer Game Launch

On March 22, Capcom released the highly anticipated action RPG Dragon’s Dogma 2 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Serving as a sequel to the original Dragon’s Dogma game, which was released in 2012, fans were eagerly awaiting the next installment.

In just one day, Dragon’s Dogma 2 soared to new heights, becoming Capcom’s biggest singleplayer game launch. The game attracted a record-breaking concurrent player count on Steam, with a peak of 228,285 players. This achievement surpassed the successful launches of other notable Capcom titles, like Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Village.

However, despite its impressive performance, Dragon’s Dogma 2 received mixed reviews from players. On launch day, the game received only 38% positive reviews on Steam, categorized as “mostly negative.” By March 25, the percentage of positive reviews increased to 52%, earning a label of “mixed.” Many players voiced their dissatisfaction with Capcom’s implementation of microtransactions for in-game items, which were introduced immediately after the game’s release.

Critics also pointed out the game’s poor performance, even on high-end systems. Additionally, players expressed frustration with the inability to create multiple save files without deleting the previous one. In response to these concerns, Capcom stated that all microtransaction items could be obtained through gameplay, addressing one of the major points of contention.

As the popularity of Dragon’s Dogma 2 continues to grow, it will be interesting to see how Capcom addresses player feedback and further improves the game. With its action-packed gameplay and immersive world, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has the potential to become a fan-favorite in the RPG genre.
