BOS has released a report on the opinions of the Swedish people regarding the gambling industry. The report, conducted by Novus on behalf of BOS, reveals significant discrepancies between perception and reality. Key findings include:

– Swedes believe that 23% of the population suffers from gambling addiction.

– In reality, the figure is 0.5%-1.3%.

– Swedes believe that gambling companies’ return to player is 21%.

– In reality, it is around 95%.

– Swedes believe that gambling advertising has increased over the past three years.

– In reality, it has more than halved.

According to Gustaf Hoffstedt, Secretary General of BOS, “This report highlights a significant knowledge gap, and it is clear that we need to work harder to communicate the true nature of the gambling industry. It is not surprising that many are calling for stricter regulation when the general belief is that almost a quarter of Swedes suffer from gambling addiction, while the actual figure is one in one hundred.”
