Rocket League Competitive Gaming to be Showcased on MLG.tv

Rocket League: The Next Big eSports Title?

Rocket League, the latest release by Psyonix, is a game where two teams control rocket-powered cars playing football. It has been tipped by Major League Gaming’s vice president to become the next big eSports title.

Released just over a month ago on PlayStation 4 and PC, Rocket League has received huge critical acclaim and is incredibly popular on both platforms. Psyonix faced severe server troubles shortly after release due to the high number of players.

Rocket League was swiftly picked up by the Electronic Sports League for competitive tournaments. Almost every tournament across Europe and North America features over 200 teams or 600 players. It is unsure whether the “official” competitive ruleset will feature 2v2 or 3v3 gameplay.

Chris Puckett, VP and Executive Producer at Major League Gaming, has asked the community on the official Rocket League subreddit what types of Rocket League content would be most welcomed. He mentioned weekly $500 tournaments and featured matches between top players, including Cosmic Aftershock and Teamy Weamy.

Rocket League has all the components to be a popular eSports title. It has a large player base, is easy to pick up and play, has a high skill ceiling, and provides non-stop action. It would definitely be a change of pace from the current popular eSports titles.
