Psyonix Unveils Revamped Model for Rocket League Esports

New Plans Unveiled for Rocket League Esports Scene

Responding to the grievances raised by professional Rocket League teams, Psyonix surprised everyone by announcing a complete restructuring of the game’s esports scene. Instead of focusing on monetization, communication, and support, Psyonix revealed plans for an “open circuit” format.

The new format will consist of three splits per season and three regional events per split, leading to one International Major and a separate World Championship in a single calendar year. Teams will earn points in each event leading up to the International Majors, with the top-performing teams qualifying for the major tournaments.

This new structure draws inspiration from the Dota 2 Pro Circuit, incorporating more events into each split. Additionally, Rocket League Championship Series teams that qualified for the 10th season will have reserved spots in the initial six regional tournaments, provided they adhere to roster restriction rules.

Current RLCS and Rival Series teams will automatically qualify for the first split of a new weekly league that will run throughout each split. More details about this league will be announced soon.

While the email from Psyonix did not directly address the concerns raised by teams and the RLCS, the company emphasized that communication is a top priority moving forward. Psyonix has been actively gathering feedback from RLCS organizations and members of the Rocket League Esports community.

Psyonix stated, “We have no details to share about the next season of the RLCS yet, but these discussions have been extremely productive and we’re looking forward to revealing more about the future of Rocket League Esports in the coming weeks.”

As both sides work towards improvement, it is hoped that this restructuring will address the issues faced by one of the largest esports scenes over the past year.
