Psyonix shifts entirely online for $300,000 Rocket League Spring Series

Psyonix Shifts to Online Format for Rocket League Spring Series

With the ongoing coronavirus outbreak causing disruptions in the esports industry, Psyonix has decided to adapt and move its competitive Rocket League scene online. This decision comes after the cancellation of the Season Nine World Championship.

Starting in April, Rocket League teams from the four major regions will have the opportunity to compete in the opening qualifiers for the Rocket League Spring Series. This highly anticipated tournament features a prize pool of $300,000 and will continue until mid-May.

Psyonix is committed to providing quality online regionals to keep the competitive scene running during the pandemic. The Spring Series will serve as a testing ground for future events and may feature experimental elements not typically seen in RLCS broadcasts.

Open qualifiers will take place at different times for each region, with South America kicking things off on April 14 and Europe concluding on May 6. Due to the online format, the schedule will be tight for all regions.

Now, let’s take a closer look at the tournament details:

Prize Pool:

– Europe: $125,000
– North America: $125,000
– Oceania: $50,000
– South America: $50,000

Format:

– Eight teams per regional tournament
– The top four teams from each region’s Season Nine Regional Championship will automatically qualify and have preferential seeding
– The remaining four spots will be filled through Open Qualifiers held prior to each tournament
– Each tournament will feature a double-elimination bracket spanning two days
– All matches, except for the Loser’s Bracket Finals, Winner’s Bracket Finals, and Grand Finals, will be best-of-five. The mentioned final matches will be best-of-seven.

Schedule:

– South America: Open Qualifiers on April 14-15, Spring Series on April 18-19
– North America: Open Qualifiers on April 21-22, Spring Series on April 25-26
– Oceania: Open Qualifiers on April 28-29, Spring Series on May 2-3
– Europe: Open Qualifiers on May 5-6, Spring Series on May 9-10

For those eager to catch the action, the Spring Series will be livestreamed on the Rocket League Twitch and YouTube channels. Qualifier matches will be streamed individually by players and not by Psyonix. Teams can sign up for the competition on Smash.gg, and every open qualifier team is guaranteed at least two matches.
