Jon Young, a lead video editor at Rockstar, lists his work on various Rockstar titles on his LinkedIn profile. However, what caught the attention of the community was his claim of working on GTA 6 between 2015 and 2018, implying that the game has been in development for almost a decade.
Speculation and Confirmation by Rockstar Games
Fans have been eagerly anticipating the release of the next GTA game by Rockstar, especially considering the long gap after GTA 5’s release. In February 2022, Rockstar confirmed that the next GTA game is “well underway” and fans got a taste of it in September 2022 through leaked concept art and gameplay footage.
However, Rockstar has never disclosed the exact start date of GTA 6’s development. It is possible that the game began development shortly after the 2013 release of GTA 5.
Rockstar’s Development Process
Rockstar is known for taking their time in developing games, as seen with the eight-year development period for Red Dead Redemption 2, which started not long after the release of the first Red Dead Redemption in 2010.
Given this information, it is unlikely that Rockstar will reveal many details about GTA 6 in the near future. The best we can hope for is a trailer release before the end of the year.
