GTA Online and Cross-Progression: What You Need to Know
Grand Theft Auto 5 may be ten years old, but it is still one of the most-played games around. While the story remains popular, it’s GTA Online that has kept the game alive. As players return to GTA Online, many wonder if they can transfer their saves across different platforms.
Put simply, players want to know if GTA Online supports cross-progression, which allows them to keep their progress across various platforms.
Cross Progression in GTA Online
The answer to this question is both yes and no. GTA Online does support cross-progression, but there are certain conditions attached.
This feature was introduced when the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrades were announced in March 2022. With these upgrades, players can transfer their progress from PS4 and Xbox One to the new consoles. However, this transfer is considered a “one-time migration.” Once you decide to transfer your progress, it will be erased on the older platform.
Additionally, cross-progression is only available between PS4/PS5 and Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S. It is not possible to transfer progress between different platforms. PC progress remains unique to PC, meaning you cannot access your PC save data from a console, and vice versa.
In summary, cross-progression is only available for players who are upgrading their version of GTA Online from last-gen consoles to current-gen consoles.
Any other scenario does not allow for cross-progression.
