Eminem Rejects GTA Movie Pitch as “Rap God”

Rockstar Reportedly Turned Down Opportunity to Produce Grand Theft Auto Movie Starring Eminem

A new podcast series from BBC Radio 5 Live, Bugzy Malone’s Grandest Game, has revealed that Rockstar had the chance to create a Grand Theft Auto movie starring Eminem but declined the offer.

In one of the latest episodes of the podcast, rapper Bugzy Malone and other artists discussed the GTA franchise and its 25th anniversary.

Game Industry Veteran Discloses Failed Movie Pitch to Rockstar

Kirk Ewing, a video game industry veteran and friend of GTA creators Sam and Dan Houser, shared on the podcast episode that he once had the connections to approach Rockstar Studios with the movie idea. However, his pitch was rejected by the game studio.

Ewing mentioned that the Houser brothers were offered $5 million for the rights to a movie featuring Eminem, with acclaimed director Tony Scott attached to direct. However, Sam Houser expressed disinterest in the project.

According to Ewing, this discussion took place shortly after the release of GTA 3, indicating that the Housers had briefly considered the possibility of a film adaptation at that time.

Ultimately, the Houser brothers recognized the massive success and influence of the GTA media franchise and decided against pursuing a movie.

Rockstar’s Decision Makes Sense Given the Game’s Success

At the time of the offer, Eminem was at the height of his music career and had just starred in the film 8 Mile, which showcased his early life in rap. Considering the game franchise’s already thriving popularity, it was understandable for Rockstar to decline the risky movie proposal.

GTA’s Impact on Fans

During his podcast discussion, Bugzy Malone praised Grand Theft Auto for providing an immersive and liberating gaming experience that resonates with millions of fans.
