NRG Esports’ Zayt and Saf Crowned Champions in North American Summer Skirmish Duos
NRG Esports’ Williams “Zayt” Aubin and “Saf” from SKT emerged victorious in the $500,000 North American Summer Skirmish Duos competition on Friday. They outshined top players from Team Liquid and FaZe Clan to claim the title.
Zayt and Saf earned $60,000 and joined the ranks of the prestigious Summer Skirmish champions. They dominated in two out of the 10 matches, including the ultimate showdown. In a nail-biting finale, seven teams had a chance to win the grand prize, but Zayt and Saf’s impressive seven-kill performance secured the map victory and an additional $6,500 bonus for the most eliminations.
This tournament followed a unique format compared to previous ones. The main objective was to be the first team to accumulate 13 points, which could be earned through Victory Royales (worth four points) and achieving five kills in a single game (rewarding teams with two points).
Some of the top players, including those from Ghost Gaming, Liquid, and Cloud9, finished in the top 10 alongside Zayt and Saf. Team Liquid’s Ryan “Chap” Chaplo and Thomas “72hrs” Mulligan put up a formidable fight, winning two maps during the tournament. They even secured the highest kill count in the fifth match with seven eliminations, but it wasn’t enough to claim first place.
While professional players dominated the top spots, popular streamers Ben “DrLupo” Lupo and NoahJ456 managed to sneak into the top 20 and secure a portion of the prize pool.
The next event, scheduled for Saturday, will feature the top and most renowned players from Europe. The competition will commence at 12pm CT.
