Understanding the New Ping System in Fortnite: Battle Royale

The New Ping System in Fortnite: Battle Royale

The eighth season of Fortnite: Battle Royale has kicked off, and it comes with a game-changing mechanic introduced by Epic Games.

Fortnite now has a new ping system, similar to the one used in the popular battle royale game Apex Legends.

In case you haven’t played Apex yet, the ping system allows players to mark locations, enemies, and items on the map. It enables players to communicate with each other without the need for voice chat.

To use this new ping system in Fortnite, simply check your settings on your gaming device. Look for the “Place Marker” option and that’s how you can utilize this new mechanic (on PS4, for example, it can be found on the D-Pad).

If you want to ping a location, press the designated button once. To ping an enemy, quickly hit the Place Marker button twice. And if you want to ping a weapon for your teammate, hover over the item and hit the Place Marker button once.

While it may seem like a simple addition, this new ping system can significantly impact gameplay, especially when playing with random teammates. So, the next time you enter a Fortnite match, make sure to give it a try.
