Sentinels Acquire Fortnite: Battle Royale Team

Esports Organization Sentinels Signs Strong Fortnite Roster

Sentinels, an esports organization, has acquired one of the strongest Fortnite: Battle Royale teams by signing the players of North American team TT.

Owen “Animal” Wright, Jaden “rieo” Leis, Mike “mikeqt” DeMarco, and Cayden “Carose” Bradford have joined Sentinels, making it the organization’s second acquisition. Previously, Sentinels assembled a three-player Hearthstone team.

Previously known as Phoenix1, Sentinels reprised its branding in June. Phoenix1, founded in May 2016, competed in three splits in the NA LCS, but was not chosen as one of the 10 permanent partners for the franchised league selected by Riot Games at the end of last year.

Following this, Phoenix1 shifted its focus and now operates the Overwatch League team, Los Angeles Gladiators, as part of Kroenke Sports and Entertainment.

With the success of Gladiators in the Overwatch League playoffs, Sentinels has now turned its attention back to other esports titles. The addition of elite Hearthstone and Fortnite talent marks an exciting new chapter for Sentinels.

“The Fortnite scene is growing rapidly,” said Charlie Lipsie, Sentinels director of esports. “With 125 million people playing the game last month, it is the most popular game in the world. We’re thrilled to be a part of it.”

Fortnite is undeniably popular, but its esports scene is still in its early stages. Epic, the game’s developer, has pledged $100 million to esports prize pools in the first competitive year and has announced major events like the Fortnite World Cup and the Summer Skirmish series.

As the competitive Fortnite: Battle Royale scene grows, Sentinels aims to establish itself as one of the top teams in the field.
