Potential Fortnite Leak Suggests an Upcoming Event Associated with the Subterranean World

A Sneak Peek into Fortnite’s Underground Event

A recent leak in Fortnite: Battle Royale suggests that an exciting underground event is on its way to the game.

Digging deeper into the game files, data miner Lucas7yoshi stumbled upon a file in the “event” folder that mentions “Underground” along with some text about “ElementalAfflictionTags.” This code references six afflictions: Dormant, Fire, Steam, Water, Life, and Earth. Although the exact meaning of these terms remains unknown.

The only existing reference to an underground feature in Fortnite season eight is the presence of digging sites. Players have already uncovered sites in Paradise Palms, Dusty Divot, and near Loot Lake. There seems to be a fourth site at the heart of Loot Lake, where the enigmatic purple cube “Kevin” exploded in season six. This expansive area could potentially serve as an exciting underground passage or cave for players to explore.

References to afflictions in Fortnite seem out of place, given that the game lacks formal status effects or afflictions for players. However, players can poison opponents with Poison Darts Traps, freeze their feet in the frozen lake of the snow biome, and experience reduced movement speed when walking in rivers and lakes. The references to developer comments on these afflictions could imply that the underground event might impact various objects in the game, including players, rocks, trees, and other environmental elements. But for now, it’s all speculation. As the leak and upcoming game events unfold, players can expect to gain further insight into the meaning behind these clues.
