Possible Revision: Potential Changes in Fortnite’s Upcoming v8.20 Update Revealed

Fortnite: Battle Royale Season Eight Update Coming Soon

Epic Games has announced that a new update for Fortnite: Battle Royale season eight will be released this week, possibly tomorrow or Wednesday. The upcoming update, known as v8.20, is expected to bring various additions to the game, although specific details are yet to be revealed.

Typically, Fortnite updates are launched early in the morning, around 4am CT. During these updates, servers are temporarily shut down for maintenance and the patch is deployed. This is also when Epic Games shares the patch notes. However, last week’s v8.11 update did not require server downtime, so players can expect a few hours of server downtime this week for the v8.20 update.

Let’s take a look at what we can expect from the v8.20 Fortnite update this week.

Introduction of Fortnite World Cup Game Modes

With the v8.20 patch, Epic Games will introduce the Arena Mode for the Fortnite World Cup qualifiers. Players will have the opportunity to compete in all regions of the Open Qualifiers point system, and the top performers will qualify for the Online Open Qualifiers, which will take place every Saturday. Starting from April 13, these Open Qualifiers will also offer prize money.

Several Bug Fixes

Epic Games has already released some of the patch notes for v8.20, which include various bug fixes for Fortnite. Community coordinator Sean “MrPopoTFS” Hamilton stated that while the team is confident in the majority of these fixes, there is always a chance that some fixes may not work as intended or make it into the patch.

Notable bug fixes include traps now damaging The Baller vehicle instead of the driver, Clingers no longer able to damage players through walls, and fixes for Pirate Cannon pathing and aiming issues.

The Floor is Lava LTM

A new temporary game mode called “The Floor is Lava” will be introduced to the Fortnite island. A teaser for this mode can be seen on the in-game News page, stating, “get to high ground or build above the lava that’s overtaking the island.” Although Epic Games has not provided further details, it appears that a volcano eruption will force players to build structures to avoid taking damage from lava.

The complete patch notes for the v8.20 Fortnite update are expected to be released when the server downtime begins.
