Fortnite’s Latest Update Marks Game’s First Anniversary with Addition of Compact SMG

Fortnite Celebrates One-Year Anniversary with 5.1 Update

Epic Games is commemorating Fortnite’s one-year anniversary with the release of the 5.1 update in Battle Royale.

As part of the birthday celebration, birthday cakes can be found throughout the map, each with consumable cake slices next to them. These slices instantly provide +5 health and shield when consumed. In addition, both the Battle Bus and supply drops have been decorated to mark the occasion.

Update 5.1 also includes several other additions, such as the return of Playground mode on July 25 and the introduction of the Compact SMG weapon. While Playground mode has seen overall improvements to loot spawns, the mode remains largely unchanged.

The Compact SMG comes in Epic and Legendary variants, dealing either 23 or 24 damage. It uses Light ammo and has a 50-round capacity. Players can find it in floor loot, chests, supply drops, and vending machines.

The update also brings several quality of life changes, such as a buff to Slurp Juice. This healing item will now heal for 75, prioritizing health over shield when health is not at maximum.

But that’s not all. The drop rates for loot in supply drops have been adjusted. Certain items, such as hand cannons, dual pistols, silenced pistols, damage traps, boogie bombs, grenades, bandages, stink bombs, Port-a-Forts, and the bush, will no longer be available in supply drops. Drop rates for other items have been adjusted accordingly, with supply drops now containing one weapon, two traps, two consumables, and two materials.

Other changes include adjustments to health for building materials. Wood walls now start with 80 health (previously 100) but have a maximum health of 150 (up from 200). Stone walls have had a 10-point decrease in starting health, while metal walls now have a maximum health of 500 (up from 400).
