Fortnite’s latest update introduces the much-awaited 5.40 additions: Getaway mode and grappler gun.

The Getaway LTM and Challenges are Now Live in Fortnite

The highly anticipated Getaway limited time mode and challenges have finally arrived in Fortnite with the latest update, version 5.40.

Introducing the High Stakes Heist Theme

Revealed at PAX West over the weekend, High Stakes introduces a thrilling heist theme to the world of Fortnite, and it is most notable in the new LTM.

Battle for Rare Jewels in the Getaway Mode

In the Getaway mode, teams of four compete to capture four rare jewels that will spawn across the map in supply drops. Additionally, each team must find a getaway van and escape, resulting in four winning teams.

In this mode, resource gathering has been increased by 50%, while mobility items like rifts, Rifts-to-Go, and launch pads have been removed. Only weapons of Rare rarity or above can be found.

Introducing the Grappler

A major addition to the Getaway mode is the Grappler, a new mobility item that allows players to fire at nearby objects and propel themselves towards them, making it easier to traverse both high and low areas. It can be found in vending machines, floor loot, treasure chests, supply drops, and supply llamas.

Other Changes and Improvements

Some notable changes in this update include the vaulting of the Revolver, as well as the removal of other weapon varieties such as the common suppressed SMG, rare rocket launcher, legendary bolt-action sniper rifle, and rare pistol. The burst assault rifle has also received accuracy buffs. Additionally, when the storm reaches its destination, player-built structures located on the storm wall will be destroyed by a surge of energy.
