Fortnite’s Latest Update Introduces Poison Traps, Fresh Foraged Items, and More in v8.20 Patch Notes

Fortnite: Battle Royale v8.20 Update Patch Notes

The latest v8.20 update for Fortnite: Battle Royale has brought a range of unexpected changes to items, vehicles, and game modes.

Highlights of the v8.20 Patch Notes

Reversion of Core Game Mode Changes

Epic Games has decided to revert some changes made to the standard game modes (Solo, Duos, and Squads) that were implemented during the Pop-Up Cups. These changes led to an unhealthy level of aggressive play, diminishing the viability of other strategies. From now on, players in these modes will no longer receive health or shield upon elimination, won’t receive materials for eliminations, will have a higher material cap, and will harvest resources at the old rate. These changes, however, will not be applied to competitive modes such as the new Arena Mode.

Weapons and Items

Epic Games has confirmed that Infantry Rifles are now hitscan, meaning they hit instantly if the player aims accurately. Previously, these rifles fired projectiles affected by gravity and travel time.

In addition, the new Poison Dart Traps have been added. These uncommon traps can be found in floor loot and deal 10 damage per second for eight seconds when an enemy is hit. The damage does not stack.

Furthermore, players can now find bananas, coconuts, and peppers around the map. Bananas, located in the tropical biome, heal five health just like apples. Coconuts can heal five health or shield over a short time, while peppers heal five health and grant a 20% bonus movement speed for 10 seconds.

The Baller Changes

The Baller no longer deals impact damage, but Epic Games has announced that players will be able to shoot through the glass of The Baller in the upcoming v8.30 update. Bouncing and knocking properties of The Baller still remain in the game.

New Arena Mode

The Arena Mode has been introduced to allow players to rank up and qualify for the Fortnite World Cup Open Qualifiers. By gaining “Hype,” players can advance to higher leagues and unlock exclusive tournaments. The more points a player earns, the higher division they reach. This mode is similar to a ranked mode. Additionally, players in the Contender League will unlock the Luxe Cup, which will run from March 30 to 31.
