Fortnite’s Battle Royale Mode Rakes in $318 Million in May

Fortnite: Battle Royale Sets New Revenue Record

Fortnite: Battle Royale continues to break records, this time surpassing the console monthly revenue record and achieving a significant milestone in total revenue.

Last month, Fortnite: Battle Royale earned an estimated $318 million across all platforms, which is approximately seven percent higher than its revenue in April, according to SuperData. In April, the game generated $296 million.

The $318 million mark not only sets a new record for the game, but also for console game history, surpassing the previous benchmark set in April. However, SuperData reports that Fortnite’s growth is slowing down, particularly on PC and mobile.

While console players continue to spend at an increasing rate, SuperData estimates that PC and mobile sales remained relatively stagnant compared to April.

According to SuperData’s report, Fortnite was not the only game generating revenue. The entire digital games market saw a total spending of $9.1 billion across all platforms in May, representing a nearly $2 billion increase from the same month last year. Mobile gaming accounted for a significant portion of this growth, showing a 36 percent increase year-over-year.

In terms of PC revenue, Fortnite surpassed its biggest genre competitor, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, ranking higher at fifth place, behind games such as League of Legends, Dungeon Fighter Online, Crossfire, and Fantasy Westward Journey Online II. Furthermore, PUBG did not make it to the top 10 console revenue earners in May.

Epic has announced that Fortnite will be releasing on Android platforms this summer. With its recent launch on Nintendo Switch, it wouldn’t be surprising to see even higher revenue numbers for June.
