Fortnite: Battle Royale Microtransactions Generate $296 Million in April

The revenue generated from cosmetic microtransactions in Fortnite: Battle Royale has reached an impressive $296 million in April, according to a recent report by SuperData. This is a significant increase from the $223 million earned in March.

The season four Battle Pass, which was released at the beginning of April and offered 100 tiers of unlocks for less than $10, likely played a major role in this surge in spending.

Fortnite Breaks Records for Additional Content Revenue

SuperData’s report also revealed that Fortnite broke the record for the highest additional content revenue in a single month for a console game. It was the most-played console game in April, surpassing popular titles like God of War, FIFA 18, Call of Duty WWII, and Far Cry 5.

When compared to PC games, Fortnite was the fifth most-played game. It ranked behind League of Legends, Dungeon Fighter Online, Crossfire, and Fantasy Westward Journey Online II. It outperformed games such as World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, which ranked ninth.

Global Digital Spending Sees Substantial Growth

Thanks to the success of games like Fortnite, worldwide digital spending increased by 23% in April. Consumers spent $9.09 billion on digital games across console, PC, and mobile, compared to $7.42 billion in the previous year. The biggest growth was seen in the console and mobile sectors, where Fortnite is thriving.

Upcoming Android Release Promises Further Revenue Spike

It is worth noting that Fortnite’s impressive success has been primarily on iOS, with the Android version yet to be released. Epic Games has announced that the Android version will be available this summer, and it is expected that the game’s revenue will skyrocket once again.
