Fortnite Summer Skirmish series tournament disrupted by lag issues

Epic Games Cancels Rest of $250,000 Fortnite Duos Tournament Due to Server Lag Issues

The inaugural Fortnite Summer Skirmish series tournament came to an abrupt end after only four matches, as Epic Games decided to cancel the rest of the $250,000 Duos competition. The decision was made due to recurring server lag issues, which caused frustration for many players.

Throughout the tournament, some of the top Fortnite: Battle Royale players went head-to-head. However, frequent lag in their matches disrupted gameplay and led to unfavorable outcomes.

While there were moments to showcase skill and teamwork, server lag often forced players to adapt and compromised their chances of winning. TSM captain Ali “Myth” Kabbani, for example, fell victim to the lag in the fourth game when his ramp was misplaced, causing him to fall into the storm and ultimately die.

“I’m lagging my ass off,” exclaimed Myth to his teammate. “Please, no lag. We were so good. You legit can’t run.”

Myth was not the only one expressing dissatisfaction with the server lag. Other popular players, including Daequan Loco of TSM, Cizzorz from FaZe Clan, and OpTic Gaming content creator Jack “CouRage” Dunlop, all criticized the lag and its impact on their gameplay.

Following the conclusion of the fourth match, Epic Games made the decision to prematurely end the tournament, aiming to prevent further frustration for players and address the server issues. This cancellation disrupted the original format, leaving no team with the required two victories to win the tournament.

The commentators announced that Epic will determine the correct winner by considering the eliminations and Victory Royales. The results will be announced through the Summer Skirmish website.
