Fortnite: Battle Royale’s new shooting model to be tested in a limited time mode

The Future of Gun Mechanics in Fortnite: Battle Royale

Epic Games is working on an update that could potentially change the way guns function in Fortnite: Battle Royale.

The upcoming update aims to address some of the concerns regarding the randomness of bullet spread in the game.

In a recent update, Epic Games stated, “One of our favorite things about Fortnite: Battle Royale is choosing how to engage another player—whether that’s building cover and closing the gap, dropping from above, sneaking around, or just going in guns blazing. Unfortunately, it can be frustrating when those plans are disrupted by a shot that randomly misses your target. To attempt to address this concern, we’ve been prototyping a few different approaches to the shooting model.”

To test the new shooting model, Epic Games will introduce a limited-time mode that incorporates the changes. This mode will function similarly to other popular modes like Sneaky Silencers, 50-vs-50, and Sniper Shootout.

The primary change in the shooting mechanics is the addition of first-shot accuracy. When a player is standing still, aiming down sights, or when aim spread is at its most accurate, there will be a red glow on the reticle to indicate first-shot accuracy. This means that the first shot will always be perfectly hitscan accurate.

Another significant change is the reduction in headshot critical hits. Shotguns will be most affected, having their critical hit multiplier decreased from 250 percent to 150 percent. Other weapons with headshot criticals will now deal 200 percent damage.

Damage fall-off will also be introduced for certain weapons. The range at which fall-off begins may vary for each weapon, and the damage will decrease to 70 percent. This change will not affect sniper rifles, rockets, and shotguns.

Epic Games plans to run multiple shooting tests and collect data from various sources to ensure that the changes are beneficial for the community across all platforms and skill levels.

Other changes include increased damage for sniper rifles and submachine guns. Epic Games did not provide a specific release date for the mode.
