Epic introduces Blackheart Cup as a lucrative online tournament in Fortnite

A new Fortnite tournament with a $100,000 prize pool announced

Epic Games has revealed that an online Fortnite: Battle Royale tournament called the Blackheart Cup will take place this weekend. It follows a similar format to the Scallywag Duos Cup held last week.

Players from all countries and platforms can qualify for the event through The Gauntlet Test Events if they meet the eligibility criteria. Those who finished in the top three percent in any previous test event, including those before the announcement of the Blackheart Cup, may already have a guaranteed spot in the tournament.

Players will have extended Gauntlet Test Event sessions this week, running 24 hours a day until the start of the Blackheart Cup. After the cup starts, later Gauntlet sessions will no longer qualify players for the tournament.

Epic Games has yet to disclose the full rules for the Blackheart Cup. However, based on previous tournaments, it is likely that the scoring system and other mechanics will remain the same. It is also unclear if there will be separate Blackheart Solo and Duos cups, or how the $100,000 prize pool will be distributed across regions.

The Blackheart Cup will take place on March 23, with eligible players aiming for the highest number of points in their sessions. The top 3,000 players from this round will advance to the grand final on March 24 to compete for the big prizes. This time, all players must have a minimum account level of 15 instead of 10.

These online cups across all regions serve as preparation for the Fortnite World Cup qualifiers, as announced by Epic Games. The Blackheart Cup provides another opportunity for Epic to test its prize payment systems before the World Cup qualifiers, which will also offer prize money.

More information about eligibility for the Blackheart Cup will be available soon.
