Epic Games undoes adjustments that led to “Connection Lost” and zero ping in Fortnite

Fortnite: Battle Royale Connection Information Bug Fixed

Since the v7.30 update, players of Fortnite: Battle Royale have been experiencing strange behavior with their connection information. Some players have noticed that their ping is registered as zero, while others have received a “Connection Lost” message under good network conditions.

Developer Epic Games recently made a change to the game’s method of calculating ping, which caused this issue. However, the company quickly reverted the change while explaining the reason behind it.

Unintended Behaviors and Reversion

Prior to the update, the ping values displayed were sometimes inaccurate. Epic Games introduced a new calculation method to provide players with a more accurate representation of their connection quality. Additionally, players would see a “Connection Lost” message when they had a poor network connection.

Epic Games acknowledged that unintended behaviors had occurred as a result of this new system. Some players experienced the “Connection Lost” message even under good network conditions, while others saw their ping values as zero. The company also noted that the displayed ping value could be affected by the player’s FPS (frames per second).

Since a quick fix for these issues was not possible, Epic Games decided to revert the 7.30 network information changes in order to address the remaining problems. This reversion will not impact players’ connections to the Fortnite servers, but rather how the connection information is presented to users.

Upcoming Blog Post

Epic Games plans to release a blog post in the near future, explaining the issue and providing a detailed solution. Until then, players will have to rely on the previous, albeit flawed, connection information rather than the new system.
