Epic Games shares their strategy to revive Fortnite’s Playground LTM

Epic Games still working on bringing back Fortnite Playground mode

The ongoing saga of Epic Games and the highly anticipated Fortnite Playground limited time mode continues. The developer is facing obstacles in its attempt to bring back the mode.

System performance goals delaying Playground mode relaunch

Epic employee, MrPopoTFS, stated on Reddit that they have set system performance goals that need to be met before relaunching the Playground LTM. Recent load tests have shown promising results, but there are still anomalies in the data that need to be understood.

Matchmaking issues preventing Playground mode from returning

The Playground mode was initially added to the game last Tuesday, but was quickly taken down due to matchmaking issues. The developer has been working on finding solutions throughout the weekend, but hasn’t found any yet.

Playground mode transforms Fortnite map into a sandbox

Playground mode allows players to use the Fortnite map as a sandbox, giving them the freedom to do whatever they want. The mode lasts for an hour and offers increased resources throughout the map, allowing players to build massive structures.

Further testing needed before Playground mode can be relaunched

Epic Games mentioned the need to investigate other test scenarios, such as server capacity and matchmaking queue back-pressure specific to the LTM. Additional system changes may be required to meet the test goals.

MrPopoTFS stated that the team is hard at work and will provide a status update after the current testing phase, which will be completed in a few hours.

The wait for Playground mode continues

For now, the wait for Playground mode is expected to be extended for a few more hours. It’s possible that the mode could return in the next couple of days.
