Epic Games Allocates $100 Million for Fortnite Esports Prize Pool in Inaugural Year

The Biggest Game Gets Even Bigger: Fortnite Announces $100 Million Prize Pool

Epic Games is taking its support for Fortnite esports to another level by providing a massive $100 million prize pool for upcoming competitions.

Although Fortnite’s tournament scene is yet to officially kick off due to limited availability of private matches, this announcement is expected to generate significant interest in the game’s competitive scene.

According to Epic Games, “In the 2018-2019 season, $100,000,000 will be allocated towards Fortnite competitions prize pools. Our approach will be different – we plan to be more inclusive, and focused on the joy of playing and watching the game.”

It’s important to note that the $100 million is solely dedicated to prize pools and does not include other expenses like advertising and organizing. This massive amount of funding highlights the game’s commitment to its competitive community.

While the announcement did not provide many details, Epic Games has promised to release more information about competitive structures and eligible platforms in the coming weeks. This fuels speculation about the possibility of an official professional Fortnite league.

In recent weeks, UMG Events and YouTuber Keemstar have organized mini-tournaments called “Fortnite Fridays,” featuring famous YouTubers and streamers competing for the most kills. The prize pool for last weekend’s event was $10,000, and the upcoming tournament will award $20,000.

These mini-tournaments have already attracted a significant amount of viewership. With the backing of Epic Games’ $100 million funding, the potential viewership for Fortnite esports can only grow further, solidifying its position in the spotlight for the foreseeable future.
