Community backlash results in nerfing of SMGs in Fortnite

Epic Games Responds to Backlash, Makes Changes to Submachine Guns in Fortnite

Epic Games has listened to the strong community feedback and reacted swiftly by announcing significant changes to the submachine guns (SMGs) in Fortnite.

The introduction of the new Compact SMG in the game received immediate praise for its power in close-range combat and destruction of wooden structures. However, players and the community quickly pointed out that the weapon was too strong. In response, Epic Games made adjustments not only to the Compact SMG, but also to the other SMGs in the game.

In a statement on Reddit, Epic Games acknowledged the feedback from the community regarding the overpowered state of SMGs. They promptly released a hotfix to address the issue and bring the weapon’s performance more in line with their intended balance.

The regular SMG and Compact SMG both received a reduction in their accuracy bonus, lowering it from 35 percent to 15 percent. Additionally, the damage of both SMGs has been nerfed, with the SMG now dealing 17/18/19 damage and the Compact SMG dropping to 21/22 in terms of damage.

Moreover, the fire rates of both SMGs have been decreased, and there have been changes to the damage falloff of the SMG, Compact SMG, and Silenced SMG. Additionally, the drop rates of Rare SMGs and Compact SMGs have been reduced.

The update is now live in Fortnite, allowing players to experience the changes to SMGs firsthand.
