New Boss Raid Mode and Massive Update Introduce Akuma to Street Fighter 6 Battle

Prepare for Akuma: The Newest Addition to Street Fighter 6

Prepare for boss rage: Akuma is now playable in Street Fighter 6. Along with the new character, Capcom has introduced a new limited-time mode that transforms the rookie fighter into a raid boss in the Battle Hub.

An Epic Battle Against Giant Akuma

Starting May 22, players can enter the Street Fighter 6 Battle Hub on any platform and be met by a new design, accentuated by a large, hologram Akuma in the center platform. This is part of the new Giant Attack event, in which players will team up for a limited time online to defeat a special boss form of Akuma.

During the event, find an open arcade cabinet and challenge SiRN Akuma to a match. Be advised, however, that this boosted form of Akuma will cause troubles if you are not prepared to face up with the demon. Alpha One Akuma vibes anyone?

The idea is to join forces with other players to shoot Hadokens at the massive Akuma in the Battle Hub until he is defeated. If you get far enough, you can unlock an additional color to use with Akuma. This is SF6’s first Giant Attack event, and Capcom will most likely repeat variations of it in the future with fresh characters and new arrivals, effectively treating it as a limited-time online game mode.

Capcom Shakes Things Up With Akuma’s Arrival

Along with this May 22 update, Akuma is now available as the Year One Character Pass’s final DLC fighter, marking the end of the first season of content. Capcom has also released the first major balancing patch for Street Fighter 6, which buffs and nerfs several characters.

While the patch is live, servers will be unavailable for maintenance until 2 a.m. CT on May 22. That hasn’t stopped top players and content creators from jumping in and labbing the new changes, which include huge updates to how characters function, including Blanka’s Overdrive Air Ball no longer being a plus when used on block.

A complete list of modifications and patch notes should be released within the next day or two, as both this patch and Akuma will be legal at Combo Breaker this week.
