Official Disbandment of Super Smash Bros. Code of Conduct Panel

Super Smash Bros. Code of Conduct Panel Officially Disbands

The Super Smash Bros. Code of Conduct Panel has officially disbanded, bringing an end to its duties in enforcing fair play and sportsmanship within the Super Smash Bros. community. The Panel’s dissolution was announced via a joint statement from the remaining members.

Following allegations of inappropriate behavior within the Super Smash Bros. community, the Code of Conduct Panel was formed in July 2020. Its primary goal was to create a safe and inclusive environment for all players, regardless of their gender or background.

The disbanded Panel consisted of eight members, including top players, organizers, and community members. They were responsible for investigating reported incidents and taking appropriate actions, including player suspensions and competitive bans.

Despite their efforts, the Panel faced criticisms for its lack of transparency and limited power to enforce decisions. Such concerns led to a decline in faith and support from both the community and top competitive players.

The Panel had a challenging task, as its role extended beyond formal competitive settings to encompass the entire Super Smash Bros. ecosystem, including online communities and social media platforms. This often made it difficult to identify and address the dynamics of various incidents.

Some notable cases handled by the Panel included allegations of sexual assault, predatory behavior, and discrimination. The investigations resulted in disciplinary actions against accused players, emphasizing the Panel’s commitment to maintain a safe and healthy environment.

With the Panel disbanding, the Super Smash Bros. community faces uncertainty regarding the enforcement of its new Code of Conduct. It will be interesting to see how future incidents will be handled and whether a new organization will take up the responsibility of upholding fair play and inclusivity in the community. The dissolution of the Panel serves as a reminder of the ongoing work required to promote a positive and respectful gaming environment in the Super Smash Bros. community.
