Everyone can now access MultiVersus characters and the paid battle pass after currency rework, but there’s a catch

MultiVersus Relaunch: New Characters and Free Bonuses Await

MultiVersus is only a few days away from returning, and Player First Games is preparing to re-welcome new and existing players with a bevy of free extras, including new characters and purchased battle pass content at no cost.

MultiVersus will reopen on May 28, bringing loads of new content and updated gameplay tweaks that were not included in the test, which ended in June 2023. Some of the material has already been disclosed, including the addition of Jason Vorhees and Agent Smith to the playable roster, as well as a new PvE mode. Leading up to the relaunch, Player First is describing what you can expect if you start playing on day one.

To begin, all players who finish the revamped tutorial will be eligible to get one of the new characters, Banana Guard from Adventure Time, for free via a seven-day prize calendar. If you complete all seven days, you will also receive the Lady Banana Guard character variant skin. If that is not enough potassium for you, all returning beta players will receive a Banana Guard announcement pack, a Snow Suit Finn character variant, and a special Rising Stars ringout animation—all of which are always claimable.

Returning players receive an additional prize for returning to MultiVersus: if they join before June 11, they will receive the premium Battle Pass for Season One for free. This includes Jason as the first reward on the premium track, and it shows a change PFG is bringing to the battle pass and game economy in general.

According to the developers, the MultiVersus Battle Pass has been updated to include more “high-value items” such as character variants, taunts, and cash in both the free and premium tiers. And, sure, this means PFG kept its promise to make Gleamium, the game’s premium currency, earnable through gameplay rather than microtransactions.

“The premium battle pass also allows you to earn enough Gleamium to upgrade to the next premium Battle Pass,” PFG stated. “And, while the new fighter (Jason) is a premium tier reward, returning players who check in by June 11 will receive this pass for free, and he will also be available via character tokens or in-game currency once the pass expires.”

So, while we do not know for sure right now, it appears that Jason will be confined to the pass for eight weeks after launch—when Season One ends. After that, he will be available via Character Tokens. Here’s a summary of these upgraded currencies, including the two new ones included for this relaunch:

  • Perk Currency (New)
    • A currency created expressly to aid in the unlocking of in-game character perks.
    • Earnable through events, Rift Mode, Battle Pass tiers, and Account/Character Mastery.
  • Fighter money (replaces Character Tokens/Tickets)
    • A currency that replaces the beta’s ticket system and allows players to unlock characters.
    • Earnable through events, Rift Mode, Battle Pass tiers, and Account/Character Mastery.
  • Prestige Currency (New)
    • You will use this cash to access exclusive cosmetics that are not normally available.
    • Earned by purchasing other cosmetics.
  • Gleamium
    • MultiVersus’ premium cash is used to unlock almost everything, including cosmetics, emotes, and the premium pass.
    • Earned through events, the Battle Pass, or direct purchases on your preferred platform.

More information about the battle pass, characters, and other upgrades shall be revealed in the following days as we get closer to the MultiVersus relaunch.
