CD Projekt Red’s Upcoming DLC for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
CD Projekt Red is known for releasing quality downloadable content (DLC). One of their most popular DLCs, Blood and Wine for The Witcher 3, is highly praised by fans. Now, the studio is gearing up for the release of their only expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 called Phantom Liberty. It will be available on PC and current-gen consoles, excluding PS4 and Xbox One, where the game was originally launched.
During an interview at Summer Game Fest 2023, Despoina Anetaki, a quest designer at CD Projekt Red, spoke to us about the studio’s commitment to surpassing their own achievements. She mentioned that they have focused on crafting an intriguing story within the spy-thriller genre, something that is rarely seen in video games.
This spy-thriller theme is not only limited to the narrative of Phantom Liberty. According to Anetaki, it permeates through the game’s environment, the available skills, and everything players will come to know in the DLC.
In Dogtown, a once-luxurious development by Pacifica that was abandoned due to the Corporation Wars, players will encounter these spy-thriller themes in minor quests, street stories, and the main narrative of the DLC. CD Projekt Red strives to outdo themselves with each new project, and they are confident that they have achieved that with Phantom Liberty.
Phantom Liberty features British actor Idris Elba, famous for his role in HBO’s The Wire, as the protagonist – an FIA agent. The developer had always wanted Elba for the role, but they have chosen to keep any details about future stars for upcoming games a secret.
As for how Phantom Liberty will connect with the base game of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red wants players to figure it out for themselves, leaving it shrouded in mystery.
