Ways Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Could Generate Significant Revenue for CD Projekt RED

The Impact of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners on CD Projekt RED

The release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has been a game-changer for CD Projekt RED.

Cyberpunk faced heavy criticism after its release at the end of 2020, plagued by game-breaking bugs, save file crashes, and overall disappointment. It currently holds an overall rating of 3.4 stars, with half of the reviews being five stars and the other half being one star. However, almost two years later, the release of the Netflix animated series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, has revitalized the franchise.

On Steam’s top 10 sellers list for the week of Sept. 12 to 18, Cyberpunk currently holds the second spot, just behind the Stream Deck. This indicates that not only are more players returning to the game after watching the Netflix adaptation, but new players are also joining in.

Cyberpunk currently outperforms recent releases like NBA 2K23, launched on Sept. 8. It also surpasses pre-orders for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which currently holds the third and fourth positions on the Steam list and is scheduled to release in late October.

The release of Edgerunners has not only resulted in increased game sales but also a quadrupling of the player count since its launch on Sept. 13. Cyberpunk’s player count rose from 16,564 to 78,478 on Sept. 19 and continues to grow steadily. The success of the animated series on Netflix has brought a positive outcome for CD Projekt RED, who had been facing backlash for several months due to the imperfect game release.
