New Theory Explores the Culprit Behind Nomad V’s Setup in Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 Fan Discovers Sheriff’s Role in Nomad Lifepath

A fan of Cyberpunk 2077 has uncovered an interesting theory about the game’s protagonist, V, and how they were caught smuggling across the border in the nomad lifepath.

The theory, proposed by Reddit user taylorjohnise, suggests that the Sheriff deliberately set up Nomad V and informed the border control. This theory is based on the fact that the Sheriff wears a hat with a camera.

“This man was literally recording EVERYTHING on his hat,” taylorjohnise wrote on Reddit on July 20. “That’s how border security knew EXACTLY what V looked like, what car she was driving, AND the fact that she had no clan backing her and Jackie.”

Another significant detail noticed by taylorjohnise is the Sheriff’s pouches, which feature the Arasaka logo, directly linked to Nomad V. In the nomad lifepath, V comes into contact with Jackie, who needed a nomad to smuggle Arasaka contraband to Night City.

Although not everyone on Reddit agreed with taylorjohnise’s theory, it sparked an interesting discussion about the possibility of killing the Sheriff after the cutscene. It’s challenging, but if you run over an NPC after the cutscene, the Sheriff will respond since he is part of the law enforcement. It may take some time, but it is possible to eliminate the Sheriff by running him over.

Unfortunately, killing the Sheriff does not alter the story of Nomad V in any way, and you will still be caught smuggling by the border control. This diminishes taylorjohnise’s theory somewhat, but it’s understandable that the game’s narrative cannot be fully controlled. Getting caught smuggling is a crucial element of the Cyberpunk 2077 story and is unavoidable.
