Is the Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty DLC free of charge?

The Latest Update and Expansion for Cyberpunk 2077

The highly anticipated 2.0 Update for Cyberpunk 2077 has finally been released, bringing a new chapter to the game. However, the real excitement lies in the Phantom Liberty expansion.

Players have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of this DLC, and early reviews suggest that it offers a fresh and innovative take on the world of Cyberpunk 2077. However, there has been some confusion among fans regarding the cost of Phantom Liberty. This confusion is understandable, as the free 2.0 Update has been advertised alongside the expansion, leading some players to believe that the expansion is also free.

In the guide below, I will clarify whether the Phantom Liberty expansion is indeed free in Cyberpunk 2077.

Is Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty Free?

Unfortunately, unlike the 2.0 Update, the Phantom Liberty DLC is not free for players. It is a full-fledged expansion that introduces an entirely new region, characters, storylines, vehicles, and weapons. Expansions of this caliber are rarely provided free of charge in single-player games.

The developers at CD Projekt RED have followed a similar approach to their previous title, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which featured two massive expansions that were priced based on the amount of content they offered.

How Much Does Phantom Liberty Cost?

Now that we know Phantom Liberty is not a free expansion, let’s discuss its price. The Phantom Liberty expansion is priced at $30, which includes all the content it offers. There are no additional microtransactions that would increase the cost, so once you pay $30, you will have access to the entire expansion.

The price may seem high for an expansion, but it’s important to consider the substantial amount of content included. Phantom Liberty offers over 30 new quests and introduces exciting new characters, such as Solomon Reed, portrayed by Idris Elba.

Additionally, the expansion features a completely new region called Dogtown, which offers plenty of activities and sights to explore. Dogtown provides a unique experience within Night City as it is distinct from the rest of the metropolis.

Having personally played Phantom Liberty, I can confidently say that the expansion offers anywhere from 20 to 35 hours of gameplay, making the $30 price tag worthwhile.
