Romancing River Ward in Cyberpunk 2077
River Ward is a former detective in Cyberpunk 2077 and the only male option for female V’s with a feminine voice to romance.
This article will guide you through the quests and decisions you need to make to romance River Ward in your Phantom Liberty playthrough.
The Hunt Quest
You will first encounter River Ward and begin the process of romancing him in one of Cyberpunk 2077’s side quests. After completing the “Life During Wartime” main quest, you can start the I Fought the Law quest to meet River.
In I Fought the Law, you have the freedom to complete the quest however you want, as your decisions here do not impact your relationship with River.
However, in The Hunt, you need to pay attention. This mission involves helping River save his nephew from a serial killer named Anthony Harris. As the police are unreliable, River takes matters into his own hands. During the mission, you’ll have to visit an NPCD lab and scan for clues in a braindance state. Make sure to scan all the clues to locate the correct farm, Edgewood. If you fail to do so, you’ll miss the chance to romance River.
If you fail to get the clues, don’t worry. Just go to Edgewood.
After completing The Hunt, River will ask you if he should seek revenge. Choose to either discourage him or join him for revenge.
Wait for at least 24 in-game hours after completing this quest, and River will call you back. This leads to the next quest, Following the River. In this quest, you meet up with River on top of a water tower for a talk. He’ll flirt with you, and eventually, you’ll have the option to kiss him. Take this opportunity, as it leads to an intimate scene and a night spent together.
Building a Lasting Relationship
In the morning, you’ll be given the option to kiss River again. If you want to establish a longer-lasting romantic relationship, choose to kiss him and respond with “I feel good around you” when the dialogue prompts.
From here, River will be your boyfriend throughout your Cyberpunk 2077 playthrough. You can even unlock a special ending that includes him in Phantom Liberty.
