What’s the best ending in Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty?

Despite the tension of the plot and the somber outcomes of most endings, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty secretly has a happy ending that outweighs the negatives. The heart of Phantom Liberty revolves around a difficult choice: whether to help Songbird or Reed. This choice has a ripple effect on other characters in the DLC and even the player character, V.

The King of Wands ending brings the most good to the world, despite the sacrifices it demands. It involves saving Songbird and eliminating your friend Reed, even after discovering that Songbird lied about a cure.

Why the King of Wands ending is the best ending in Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty

The King of Wands ending may seem like a questionable choice at first glance, considering Reed isn’t a bad person and you’re siding with someone who manipulated you. However, compared to the consequences of the other endings, this one appears to be a happily ever after.

The King of Cups ending involves ending Songbird’s suffering by shooting her when she’s infected with the Blackwall virus. To make matters more cynical, Reed and The President are unhappy with you for failing to bring back Songbird alive. They offer you 5000 eddies as payment, treating you like a soulless mercenary.

Handing over Songbird to Reed isn’t a better option either. It leads to either the King of Swords or King of Pentacles ending, both of which result in a depressing main game ending known as The Tower.

Why The Tower is the worst ending

Songbird is forced to return to work for the government, but her memories are altered, reducing her to a low-level peon instead of the highly skilled operative she once was. Additionally, your friend Alex dies as collateral.

Although Reed offers to fix your Cyberware virus through surgery, things don’t go as planned. The operation is successful, but you fall into a coma for two years and wake up to find that everyone in your life has moved on. Your career as a mercenary is effectively over, and the ending even portrays you getting beaten up by street thugs whom you would normally defeat easily.

The King of Wands ending, on a brighter note, has several upsides.

Upsides of the King of Wands ending

After helping Songbird escape, you’ll receive confirmation of her successful cure of the Blackwall virus in the “From Her to Eternity” quest. Despite her previous deception, it’s rewarding to know that your efforts have positively impacted someone’s life. In the other endings, even the positives end up going awry.

Additionally, your friend Alex survives. In the “Unfinished Symphony” mission, you can meet her at her bar for a well-written conversation, share a drink, and dance together. She expresses her desire to leave the city and live an easier life.

Later in the quest, you’ll receive a postcard revealing that she successfully escaped to Monte Carlo in Mexico.

How to get the best ending in Phantom Liberty

To avoid the cynical and harsh fates of other endings and at least feel like you’ve done some good in the world, follow these steps:

  • In the “Firestarter” mission, choose the “I’m with you” dialogue option and help Songbird escape.
  • In the “Killing Moon” quest, select the “Time to go” option and carry Songbird.
  • When confronted by Reed, draw your weapon and eliminate him.

By following these steps, you’ll unlock the King of Wands ending.
