Cyberpunk 2077: To Keep or Return Skippy the Gun?

Skippy is a unique weapon in Cyberpunk 2077, and you have a choice—return it or keep it.

In Cyberpunk 2077, you’ll find iconic weapons like Skippy everywhere. Skippy is a smart pistol with an AI that seems abandoned. As you explore its origin and use it, you’ll be faced with a decision: give the gun back to its rightful owner, Regina Jones, or keep it for yourself.

Since this is a CD Projekt RED game, the choice is not straightforward. But there is an optimal answer to this dilemma.

What to do with Skippy in Cyberpunk 2077?

The question is more complicated than it appears. However, V should do the right thing and return Skippy to Regina. After getting 50 kills and waiting a few weeks in-game, the AI in Skippy will discover information about its previous owner and demand to be returned to her, starting the Machine Gun sidequest.

You’ll need to bring Skippy back to Regina to complete the Machine Gun quest. Skippy’s dialogue will be replaced with screams of protest, even if you have him in your stash. However, if you’re a fan of Skippy’s capabilities, the annoyances might be worth it—until the 2.0 patch changed the game.

After completing the Machine Gun quest, Regina will return Skippy, but the AI module will be removed, disabling his voice lines. You no longer have to choose between a clean quest log and a completed stash wall.

The firing mode for Skippy is a separate matter and has its own unintended consequences. If you don’t have the patience for the AI’s antics, it might be better to choose another iconic weapon to use in Night City.
