Respawn focuses on tackling cheaters through ranked party restrictions, addresses Apex badges in latest update

Addressing Cheating in Apex Legends Ranked:

The competitive experience in Apex Legends Season 20 has been overshadowed by the presence of cheaters, particularly in higher-ranked lobbies. However, Respawn Entertainment is taking steps to tackle this issue. They have recently implemented tighter party restrictions, after having initially removed them.

Tightening Party Restrictions for Ranked Play:

In a recent patch on April 8, Apex introduced a new limitation on parties queuing up for ranked play. Now, there is a three rank tier difference restriction. While this still allows players to team up with friends in different ranks, it effectively prevents cheaters with fresh accounts from infiltrating Master and Apex Predator lobbies. Respawn has also addressed other issues in the same update, such as fixing ranked badges to display the correct ranks and resolving a connection error encountered by some players after a crash.

Challenges Faced by Apex Legends:

Apex Legends has faced several challenges over the past month. During the ALGS regional finals in March, multiple pro players were hacked, raising concerns about the game’s overall security. Shortly after, a bug caused a significant number of players to lose account level progression and cosmetics after the weekly reset on April 2. While Respawn quickly provided a fix for this issue, they had to postpone the start of the second ranked split in response to these problems.

Progress Toward Resolving the Cheating Issue:

This recent update brings a glimmer of hope that the cheating problem may finally be addressed. The reintroduction of party limitations is expected to reduce the impact of cheaters in high-level lobbies. However, it is important to note that this measure alone will not completely solve the issue. Respawn may want to consider raising the account level requirements for ranked play back up to 50, which would further deter repeat offenders using new accounts.
