Oversight Pro Series Aims to Revive Third-Party Tournaments in Apex Legends Esports
In the world of Apex Legends esports, the ALGS (Apex Legends Global Series) is the dominant and sole tournament. However, with the decline of major third-party tournaments in Apex, Oversight is stepping in to change the game.
New Pro Series to Fill the Void
Last year, Oversight faced setbacks that led to the cancellation of their plans for third-party Apex LANs. But now, they are making a comeback in 2024. The new Pro Series announced by Oversight will help fill the gap left by previous third-party tournaments and provide professional players with high-stakes environments to test character and weapon metas.
Funding Challenges and Self-Support
Last year’s Pro Series was put on hold due to high costs and the impact of the “esports winter.” Sponsors who had initially agreed to support the event withdrew due to reduced marketing budgets. To overcome funding challenges, Oversight decided to rely on their own resources. They organized small events to generate funds, which they reinvested into Oversight and its projects.
Upcoming Pro Series and Beyond
The upcoming Pro Series, starting on April 1, will feature teams qualified for the ALGS Split One Playoffs. This will provide them with an alternative to LAN scrims, allowing them to compete against international teams and play for fully-funded prize pools. After the Split One Playoffs, the Pro Series will continue in an NA-only format from May 13. Oversight plans to replace regular scrims with this higher-stakes tournament.
NiceWigg to Broadcast Pro Series
The Pro Series will be broadcast by NiceWigg, who has a partnership with Oversight. Wigg’s popular watch parties for ALGS scrims and tournaments make him the perfect choice to provide a unique viewing experience outside of individual player streams. As more teams qualify for the next Split Playoffs LAN, the Pro Series will transition into a preview of LAN in April.
Self-Funding for a Greater Cause
Oversight is currently self-funded and does not have any sponsors. However, minustempo and Chrono are determined to push forward. Any money they make will be reinvested into prize pools, showcasing their commitment to supporting the Apex community.
Growing the Scene
Oversight’s objective extends beyond profit or personal gain. They aim to grow the Apex scene and involve the community beyond the professional circuit. As they continue their efforts, Oversight’s confidence and plan of action will undoubtedly contribute to the development of Apex Legends esports in 2024.
A Promising Addition to the Apex Legends Tournament Calendar
Oversight’s Pro Series brings much-needed excitement to the relatively sparse lineup of Apex Legends tournaments in 2024. With their determination and support, Oversight is reviving third-party tournaments and reinvigorating the Apex Legends esports scene.
