British Universities Compete in UE Masters

The United Kingdom is proudly represented in the prestigious University Esports Masters (UE Masters) competition, where students from University of Roehampton, Nottingham Trent University, and Staffordshire University will battle it out to qualify for the Grand Final and potentially claim the champions’ title.

Having shown exceptional skills in the previous qualifiers, the British universities will field four teams in the upcoming UE Masters Playoffs. On May 11 and 12, the tournament will feature thrilling Rocket League matches, and on May 25 and 26, there will be fierce battles in Valorant. Joining the competition are teams from Croatia, Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, Ukraine, Ireland, Spain, and the Netherlands, promising a diverse and exciting showdown for esports enthusiasts. University of Roehampton will be represented by two formidable teams aiming for victory in the Rocket League Playoffs, while students from Nottingham Trent University and Staffordshire University will showcase their skills in the upcoming VALORANT Playoffs. The competition’s 2023/24 edition boasts a generous prize pool of 14,000 euros and has attracted university teams from 17 European countries, receiving support from Riot Games, a renowned video game developer.

UNIVERSITY Esports Masters is more than just a video game competition; it is a part of the larger UNIVERSITY Esports project, a global initiative encompassing esports, gaming, and technology in 26 countries across four continents. With a community exceeding 100,000 universities, the project aims to foster camaraderie among players, offer opportunities for international competition, and facilitate career development within the esports industry for young talents.

The gaming and esports sector is rapidly growing, becoming a significant player in the global entertainment industry. According to Statista, the United Kingdom is witnessing a surge in esports popularity, reflected in the increasing number of tournaments, teams, and dedicated arenas. Projections indicate that the domestic esports market in the UK will continue to thrive, with revenues expected to reach £183.3 million in 2024 and £234 million by 2028, representing a substantial market share.
